Street Photographer based in Brighton

As a street photographer I’m lucky to be based in Brighton. It’s a wonderful city. Brighton is brilliant for us street photographers in so many ways. Mainly due to the people and characters who live here!

Brighton is a cosmopolitan and progressive city. There is always something going on here.

We have street performers and buskers galore. There are plenty of festivals, exhibitions and protest marches. During the summer months lots of tourists and day trippers visit the city too.

There are so many fantastic photographic opportunities here in Brighton!

London and UK Street Photography

I also shoot street photography in London and elsewhere in the UK when the opportunity arises.

I’m always on the look out for that “Decisive Moment” as defined by Henri Cartier-Bresson in his famous book of the same name.

However, my style is also about creating dynamic street photography using a variety of techniques. For example, by using long exposure motion blur.

I aim to achieve a consistent look with my street photographs. I only use digital cameras these days. However, the way I process my images takes inspiration from some of the classic monochrome and colour films. It’s great that those film stocks are still in use to this day.

International Street Photography

I also enjoy international travel. My work as a street photographer is generally more documentary oriented when I’m travelling. In other words, it’s a different style to my work in the UK. Telling a story becomes more important than creating dynamic images when I’m overseas.

That’s because different cultures fascinate me. I enjoy telling the story of everyday life in different parts of the world through my images. It’s no wonder I became a photojournalist!
